Traditional Homemade Eggnog

Traditional Homemade Eggnog

Egg Nogg Recipe

Eggnog is undoubtedly the most traditional of winter holiday drinks. As Charles Dickens might have said, this creamy concoction evokes warm memories of holidays past, is joyously imbibed during the holiday present, and is always eagerly anticipated when dreaming of a holiday future. This recipe serves two, but it can be doubled or even re-doubled for a party.

1 egg, divide yolk from white and retain both
1½ T. sugar, divided
4 oz. whole milk
2 oz. heavy cream
½ tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 oz. Spirits & Spice Liqueur (we recommend Luscious Apricot, Tart Cherry, Black Currant, Chocolate Hazelnut, Sweet Irish Maid, or Agave Rum)

Using a large bowl and hand mixer (or stand mixer), beat the egg yolk until light in color. Gradually add 1 T. of sugar and continue to beat until it is dissolved. Add the milk, cream, Spirits & Spice liqueur of your choice, and vanilla and stir to combine; set aside. In another bowl, beat the egg white to soft peaks. Gradually add the remaining sugar and beat until stiff peaks are formed. Whisk egg white mixture into the egg yolk mixture. Chill, pour in a mug, sprinkle with nutmeg, and serve.
